Eligibility Guidelines

 
 
The Motion Picture & Television Fund offers charitable and residential services to union and non-union workers – guided by each industry member's eligibility.

The Social Services Department can provide information and referrals to any industry member.  Please call (323) 634-3888 for help finding a service or resource you may need anywhere in the country.
  • The eligibility for Emergency Financial Assistance is a minimum of 7 Fund qualifying years.
  • The eligibility for Short term Emergency Medical Services is a minimum of 11 Fund qualifying years.
  • The eligibility for independent and assisted living Residential Services (The Fran and Ray Stark Villa, the Country House Garden Cottages and the Frances Goldwyn Lodge) is a minimum of 20 Fund qualifying years. 
  • Residency in our Long Term Care Facility and our hospital dementia unit also requires a minimum of 20 Fund qualifying years. If there are vacancies in this area of the hospital, the number of required Fund qualifying years may be reduced.

Also, on occasion, a vacancy not filled by an eligible industry member may be offered to a parent of a qualifying industry member on an exception basis.

In general, when we say “eligible applicant” we mean:  

  • One whose record of employment has been with entertainment companies directly or indirectly involved in the production or distribution of theatrical motion pictures or television programming, or for companies that directly support this production and distribution.
  • One who has been employed within the United States, or for a company located within the U.S., regardless of whether the work may have been performed outside the U.S.
  • One whose minimum annual earnings requirements are met for each eligible year.
  • One whose taxable income for more than 50% of his/her minimum number of eligible years performed for eligible companies is based in California.
  • One who has an acceptable number of years working in the entertainment industry versus years worked in other industries.
