The Motion Picture & Television Fund Foundation
Eighty years ago, it was a revolutionary idea – the notion of a whole industry (not an individual corporation) taking care of its own, providing a safety net for anyone who was part of the movies and television, from grip to principal player. Now, as then, the Motion Picture & Television Fund’s mission is to protect and preserve the health and quality of life of those who devote so much of their lives to the industry.
At the dedication of the Country House in 1941, actor, director, and one of the founders of MPTF, Jean Hersholt spoke of dreams yet to be realized. He understood that philanthropy can inspire people and institutions to be better than even they think they can be. Hersholt’s vision and leadership transformed a small “relief fund” in an office in Hollywood into a campus that became home for countless of industry veterans over the past 65-years.
Now MPTF is once again is at a transformational moment in developing new ways of taking care of our families and co-workers. While we continue to expand our health services and our residential services on The Wasserman Campus, we are also turning our vision outward to provide support for today’s active seniors who prefer to stay in their own homes. It is a paradigm shift that envisions a future in which industry veterans can live safely and independently in their communities, staying connected to the people and activities that help them live happier, healthier lives. The technology and the strategies exist to make this a reality now. As the trusted industry provider of health and human services, MPTF is committed to using every available resource that may benefit our community.
This generation of leadership and donors have an opportunity to have their own “Hersholt moment” and carve out the legacy that will help this industry address the issues of financial security, health care needs, and care giving needs that will be staggering just in the sheer numbers of baby boomers heading toward retirement.
The MPTF Foundation exists as the conduit to marshal the vision of our donors and their philanthropy to the growing human needs of the entertainment community we serve.
For great vision is powerless without the passion expressed by the giving of one’s own resources. Your financial contribution, large or small, is greatly needed and greatly appreciated. Each dollar truly makes a difference.
As Hersholt said: “There are dreams yet to be realized.” With your help we can build upon the dreams that have already made MPTF a very special charity.
